By volunteering time, talents and funds, Simply Fresh Events intends to make a difference in the community. To give of one’s talents for the greater good is central to the beliefs of the Phelan and Barker families, who founded Simply Fresh Events. To that end, they have committed themselves and their company to partner with Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland and Nourish Now. Both these non-profit agencies have philosophies and goals that align with those of Simply Fresh.
Habitat for Humanity’s mission of reducing poverty housing and homelessness in the nation’s capital is something that resonates with the company founders. SFE President Matthew Phelan says that his service trips to Haiti and to the Appalachian Mountain area of Kentucky are what initially drew him to the mission of Habitat Metro Maryland. Even now, several years later, Matt continues to be drawn to this important work.
SFE Director of Sales Geoff Barker and Nourish Now President Brett Meyers have a long history of working together. Nourish Now works to reduce food insecurity in the Montgomery County area by repurposing fresh leftovers to those in need, and Simply Fresh Events is committed to reducing food waste in our industry. As with any catering company, SFE finds that we have an excess of food after certain affairs. Our partnership with Nourish Now means that those fresh foods will be distributed to those in the community who can best use them.
As Simply Fresh Events continues to grow as a company, the Phelan and Barker families expect their community partnerships to grow as well. They also encourage their employees to give back to the community through volunteer work with groups in which they have a particular interest.
